5 things that have changed my life...

Life comes down to good decisions.  I can still hear my dad's voice, "Karyn, make GOOD choices today!"  As a kid, I would always roll my eyes when he said that, but one day it finally clicked that life really does come down to making good choices.  We are all products of our decision making -- good or bad.  Sometimes we reap the blessings of good choices, and sometimes we spend years digging out of poor choices.  I have made my share of both over the years, but this past year there are a few AWESOME things that have changed a lot for us, so I thought I would share:  THE FIVE THINGS THAT HAVE CHANGED IT ALL!!!!!

1.  Every year on my wedding anniversary, I always say that marrying my husband was the "2nd best decision I ever made."  Most people look at me funny for  second until they realize what I mean.  The most important decision I have EVER made with my life was to follow Jesus Christ.  I first made that decision while kneeling by the bed with my mom when I was 5 years old.  Of course, at that age, I didn't fully understand what I was doing, but I knew I wanted Jesus in my heart.  When I got into high school & college, I began to realize that it was up to me to pursue a personal relationship with the Lord, and I have been running as hard as I can towards Him ever since.

2.  The second best decision I have made with my life was who I chose to marry.  Once you've been married for a while, I think it's easy to forget that at one point, you made an on purpose, intentional decision that you were going to devote your life to this person for the rest of your time on earth.  I stood outside in a beautiful park on October 9th, 2009 and promised Brian White that he would be the man I would spend the rest of my days on earth with.  Best.  Decision.  EVER!  Brian is the kindest person I've ever met.  He is my biggest cheerleader, the man who can make me laugh like no one else, and he is the man who leads our home the way God intended.  Brian has been a professional songwriter for more than 30 years, so we are able share "all things music", and being on the road with him these last few years has been more fun than I know how to sum up!!!  :-)  I could go on and on but I'll stop.  Bottom line -- if you are not married, choose VERY carefully.  Ask the Lord to give you clarity and a peace that passes ALL understanding about the person you are thinking about marrying!

OK -- the first 2 were easy.  Now for the rest.  These are 3 things that have quite literally changed our lives & our home for the better.....

My husband & I are musicians.  Money does not grow on trees for us.  In fact, it has never been harder to make money in the music industry.  I'm not saying that to complain, it's just a fact.  Waaaaaay back in the day, we used to buy records for $19.99.  Does anyone remember that?!  Now, we sell individual songs for $ .99 cents, and the musicians and songwriters only keep a percentage of that!  Even math dummies like me can see the difference there!  ;-)

So, the point of telling you all of this is that for the last few years I have felt overwhelmed by it all.  I have felt frustrated.  I have felt angry at times.  I have wondered if I should do something more "steady" and consistent.  I have worked harder and longer only to continue feeling like we were in a financial hole.

Then, last January a friend of mine gave me Dave Ramsey's "Financial Peace University".  In all honesty, it sat in my home office for a few months collecting dust.  I was NOT going to be one of those weird envelope people.  ;-)  But I finally got frustrated enough that I picked it up one day and said "What do I have to lose by just reading it?"  Well...that was the day that everything changed.  I decorated up some cute envelopes (because everything is more fun when it looks cute, right?!) and that first month of using envelopes, I realized how many unnecessary things we were spending money on every month.  Now, I don't mean crazy stuff...I just mean $20 dollars here, or $40 dollars there...it adds up QUICK!  In our first 3 months following Dave's "Baby Steps", we paid off 2 credit cards that had been hanging over us for yearrrrrs!!!!  I'm not kidding.  I couldn't believe it!  Now, I actually look forward to sitting down on the 1st of the month and planning out our budget.  Guys....this is the girl who used to cry during math class!!!!  And now I look forward to budgeting?!  Dave Ramsey makes it SO super easy.....and dare I say....FUN!  {GASP!}  So, there it is.....take it or leave it.....but I recommend taking it!  Go to daveramsey.com and get Financial Peace University.  Dave is also on the radio every afternoon, so just do a quick search for the station he's on in your city!

Ok, if you have ever spent more than 5 minutes with me, you know that I am SUUUUUUUPER passionate about healthy living, clean eating and doing everything I can to avoid chemicals!!!  The absolute BEST tool I have found in the fight against chemicals are my Young Living essential oils.  These things have changed it all for me....I'm not even kidding.  I had a friend try to tell me about essential oils for about 2 years and it just didn't make much sense to me, so I didn't do anything about it.  And MAN am I kicking myself now for not getting started sooner.  They have helped my sleeplessness on the road, occasional headaches, boosted our immune systems, help with respiratory issues, energy stress.....I'm tellin' ya, we reach for oils for everything now.  And when I say "we", yes....my husband is just as obsessed with them now as I am.  HA!  He was very skeptical at first, but after he saw how effective they were, he quickly changed his tune.

Essential oils are popping up everywhere now, so do NOT be fooled by cheapie oils.  Young Living is the only company that owns their own farms, grows their own plants and distills their own oils.  That is why they are so effective, because of their purity.  So if you really want to start incorporating oils into your life, you want to use the right ones, otherwise you'll just end up frustrated.  Here's the cool thing -- the BEST way to get started using oils is with the Premium Starter Kit from Young Living.  It's $160 dollars and it comes with 11 bottles of oils PLUS a diffuser!  The diffuser alone is around $70 dollars, and each bottle of oil is anywhere from $20-$40 dollars, so this kit is truly an amazing deal and since it comes with the most commonly used oils, it takes a lot of the guesswork out of where to start!  We ordered our kit about a year and a half ago, and I always say "It's the best thing we have ever done!"  **Young Living now lets you choose which diffuser you'd like with your kit, so you can upgrade to one of the fancy shcmancy diffusers if you'd like!  The "home diffuser" is the standard one it comes with, we have 3 of those at home and we LOVE them!**

If you want to get started (and I seriously can't recommend it enough) then CLICK HERE to order your Premium Starter Kit.  Once you order your kit, you'll have a wholesale membership with Young Living.  It's kind of like a Sam's or Costco membership -- from there on out, you can order whatever you want at the wholesale prices.  If you don't use it, it will just expire after a year....nothing weird or pressure-y.  :-)  And by order with that link, that will put your membership right under mine and I can help you along the way!!!!  I wish I had ordered this when my friend first talked about it.....but better late than never right?!  Go for it, and just get in touch with me if you have any questions!

I've been an athlete my whole life.  I was a competitive gymnast until I was about 13, then I was a cheerleader in high school, then I started running marathons.  I've never been one to let the grass grow under me.  ;-)  But over the last few years of traveling as an artist, I noticed that I was gaining weight.  It wasn't a lot all at once, it was gradual.  But it was enough to frustrate me over the last few years.  One day I woke up and said:  "ENOUGH".  I had heard one of my friends talking about the "21 Day Fix".  I was resistant to it (are you seeing a pattern here.....I tend to take a while to listen sometimes....lol!)  but I finally reach that "what do I have to lose" point.  So, I ordered the fix, followed it to a "T", and in my first 21 days I was back to my 'fighting weight'; I lost a half inch off each arm; a half inch off each leg; 2 inches off my hips and almost 4 INCHES off my waist!!!!!!!!!  It was at that point my husband said, "Can I do it with you when you start again?"  Hahaha...he jumped in my 2nd time through, and he lost 11 pounds!!!!!

To me, the coolest thing about the 21 Day Fix is the eating plan.  I told you earlier that I'm a healthy eater, I always have been.  Sweets don't tempt me believe it or not.  I just struggle with knowing how much of what to eat, because our portions are so MASSIVE in this country!!!!!  The 21 Day Fix comes with little color coded containers and each container represents a different food group.  It will tell you how many calories your body needs (based on your weight), and then it'll tell you how many of each container you should eat every day.  It also recommends that you take the container and pour it onto a plate so you can start to recognize the portion sizes you should be eating.  I'm telling you -- it's so easy.  I don't have a lot of free time, so if I can do it....anyone can do it!  Go to:  www.21dayfix.com if you want to order it, and then go to my Facebook page and let me know your progress so we can cheer each other on!!!!!

So there ya go!  These are the 3 things I have incorporated into our lives this past year that have changed everything and I just wanted to pass this info along to you.  I think too often, it's easy to fall into a negative way of thinking:  "I'm not happy with my weight", "I don't know how to get out of debt", "It's easier to reach for a pill than learn how to use an oil"......as opposed to looking at things as a positive challenge:  "If I cut a little here and a little there, I can pay off debt quicker!", "If I start working out today, then think where I'll be in 2 months!", "By incorporating essential oils and eliminating chemicals from my life, I will feel better, eliminate headaches, etc....."   It's all about perspective.

And yes...making GOOD decisions!
